According to a new survey published by the World Cancer Research Fund, drinking three or more alcoholic drinks per day significantly increases the risk of being diagnosed with liver cancer.

The survey was published in World Cancer Research Fund’s Liver Cancer 2015 report.

Liver cancer is the second deadliest type of cancer in the entire world. In 2012, 746,000 people died from liver cancer around the world.

The findings are based on the analysis of about 34 scientific studies and research of health data for over 8 million men and women and 24,600 cases of liver cancer.

Researchers found a positive correlation between three daily alcoholic drinks and liver cancer in addition to finding that regular coffee consumption is associated with a decreased risk of liver cancer.

The data that supports a protective effect of coffee on liver cancer was largely found in studies in animals, however there are some human studies that also contributed to the evidence.

As of now the mechanism for coffee’s anti-cancer effects isn’t clear and more research is necessary.

The research also found that a significant amount of research suggests a relationship between aflatoxins and liver cancer. Aflatoxins are toxins produced by mold.

Aflatoxins are produced by inadequate storage of food and tend to be an issue related to foods from warmer developing regions of the world. Foods that can be affected by aflatoxins include but are not limited to cereals, spices, peanuts, pistachios, Brazil nuts, chilies, black pepper, dried fruit and figs.

The same studies that found that regular coffee consumption was associated with a decreased risk of liver cancer also found a positive correlation between three alcoholic drinks daily and liver cancer.

Researchers believe that these findings suggest that regular coffee consumption can diminish the damage cause by regular alcohol consumption.
