How many years does it take to become an attorney?

A: You must first complete 4 years of college. Then you must complete 3 years of law school. In order to practice in New York State, you must then pass a rigorous exam called the Bar Exam. It is usually a two day exam consisting of both multiple choice questions and essay questions. Once you have passed the Bar Exam, you must apply to the Appellate Court to seek admission to the Bar. Only after submitting your application and passing an interview with the Character and Fitness Committee will you be admitted to practice law in the State of New York.
