According to Newsday, this past weekend marked the opening of a new, $50 million women's health center in Manhasset, Long Island. The clinic, known as The Katz Women's Hospital, is located at the North Shore University Hospital, within the complex's Lippert Pavilion.

There, the new hospital is set to specialize in, "obstetrics and gynecology, labor and delivery, infertility and reproductive treatment and diabetes education." The luxury hospital is slated to feature 73 single-bed rooms and have "hotel-like accommodations." According to the hospital, new mothers would be able to stay with their relatives in the rooms after childbirth. There are additional rooms for patients with extended care or high-risk needs.

Updated technology allows medical staff easier access to patient information. Green technology was used in the concrete, night lights, and room shades -- the latter of which use solar technology to cool rooms in the summer and heat them in the winter.

The head of the North Shore-LIJ Health System is confident that this will be the "go-to destination for women's health services throughout the New York metropolitan area."

The Katz Women's Hospital is part of a larger, $250 million effort that includes a sister facility at the LIJ Medical Center in New Hyde Park, scheduled to open in March of 2012. Together, these hospitals will also offer other services for women, including cardiac diseases, cancer, orthopedics, neurosciences, thyroid conditions, bleeding disorders, emotional disorders, and menopause.
