Jury Awards $30M To Injured Construction Workers (AP) COMPTON, Calif. A jury has awarded $30 million to construction workers injured when a roof collapsed over a sewage tank they were building in Carson. Some of the workers plunged down six stories and two were impaled on metal reinforcement bars. A dozen plaintiffs will split the money. Two of them, Martin and Irma Garcia, were awarded $16.1 million. Martin Garcia's attorney says his client suffered brain injuries when he fell to the floor of the tank The Superior Court awarded the damages Friday and had been deliberating since Nov. 18. They previously found four companies liable for the October 2001 collapse at a water pollution control plant. The suit was filed in 2002 and alleged negligence, product liability and other claims.
