Jury awards family $9 million in suit against hospital Associated Press LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A jury awarded the family of a woman $9 million after finding a hospital negligent in her death. Brandenburg resident Jennifer Beglin, 40, who had elective surgery at University Hospital on July 14, 2003, died that October. During the surgery, Beglin suffered massive blood loss and despite more than a dozen calls to the hospital blood bank a floor below, the blood was delayed in getting to Beglin, causing her to suffer brain damage, go into a coma and eventually die, said Jack Conway, an attorney for the Beglin family. After the verdict, Carol Browning, an attorney for University Hospital, said it would appeal.
