Jury awards woman $214,000 in fall from jail bed May 16, 2006 - 5:41PM TRAVERSE CITY (AP) - A Traverse City woman has been awarded $214,000 to cover injuries suffered in a fall from a jail bed. A federal jury in Grand Rapids found that the Grand Traverse County Jail was "indifferent" toward Amy Ford's medical needs. But the jury ruled that jail officials weren't negligent. Ford says she had a seizure and fell while sleeping in her cell in October 2002. She fractured her right hip and right clavicle. She had been jailed for violating probation. Ford says she told four jail employees that she took medication for epilepsy after she was assigned to a top bunk without restraints. The county attorney has a filed a motion seeking to have the verdict tossed.
