Joan Rivers, a wonderful comedian has died after being taken off life support. Such a shame. Such a funny woman.
I had seen her perform many times and had last heard her speak at a marketing event called Glazer Kennedy Insiders Circle. Most remarkable was how humble she was. She was willing to take on any job, big or small. Her mantra was that you never know where life will lead you and how one door opening leads to another.
Today's news posts adds to another article I wrote recently after news reports surfaced that Joan's daughter, Melissa was considering bringing a medical malpractice lawsuit against the doctor and the endoscopy center where she had a throat procedure performed. She apparently went into cardiac arrest during the procedure and remained on life support for more than a week until her untimely demise today.
Importantly, for those who are interested in learning how much time a family member has in order to bring a wrongful death lawsuit, it's important to know that this time period is ONLY VALID as of today, September 4, 2014.
As of today, a surviving family has ONLY 2 years from the date of death within which to start a medical malpractice lawsuit against a private doctor or private health care facility. You may be reading this tomorrow, weeks, months or years from now and the reality is that the time to bring a wrongful death lawsuit MAY HAVE CHANGED. That's why you CANNOT and SHOULD NEVER rely on information you read or watch online since it may be out of date by the time you learn of it.
The ONLY way you can know for sure exactly how much time a surviving family has to start a wrongful death lawsuit in NY is to speak to an experienced attorney.
