Most people fear having surgery for various reasons, such as the hospital failing to take out the proper organ. One woman’s nightmare actually came true during what was supposed to be a routine procedure.

Fox news reports on a serious surgery error.

One pregnant woman and her baby died after her surgeons removed the wrong organ from her body. She was only thirty-two years old.

The woman was suffering from appendicitis and needed to have her appendix removed. “The case is now in front of a medical tribunal, which is weighing the medical fates of the two doctors involved."

During the surgery, the patient began to bleed ‘quite heavily. ... In the midst of this, one of the surgeons removed what he clearly believed to be the appendix. He thought he found it, removed it, and gave to a nurse what later turned out to be Patient A's ovary,’ the tribunal heard. Another doctor, who was eating lunch at the time, was never summoned, nor was he aware the surgery was taking place. The mistake wasn't uncovered until much later,” according to Fox.

The woman returned to the hospital in serious pain just a few days later since her appendix had never been removed. The second time around the hospital finally realized their mistake, but the damage had already been done. She died on the operating room table and gave birth to a stillborn baby boy.

Fox reports, “Her cause of death was ruled as multiple organ failure due to septicemia.” The mother of three died about three weeks after the first wrongful surgery.
