There was nothing routine about it.

During the Hernia repair surgery, the surgeon inadvertently made a hole in the colon. In order to fix that problem, he had to remove the damaged part of the colon. He then had to connect the two healthy ends of the colon. That connection turned out to be deadly for the patient.

You might ask yourself how this is possible?

In these failure to diagnose cases, the fact that the injury occurred is usually not evidence of malpractice. However, it is the failure to recognize that injury that usually will rise to the level of malpractice.

In this case, the surgeon and the other doctors caring for this patient all failed to recognize what had happened until it was too late. By the time they actually realized what occurred the patient was dying.
