He was my adversary.

He was the defense attorney

I was the plaintiff's attorney.

He was vigorously defending his client.

I did the same.

During a break in jury selection, he said something to me that I remember more than twenty years later.

He wasn't talking about money.

He wasn't talking about material wealth.

He wasn't talking about material posessions like cars, houses, jewelry, clothing or other outward expressions of wealth.
