How many times have we seen movies where a judge in charge of a case is biased or in favor of one side or the other?
In civil lawsuits in New York involving accident matters, medical malpractice cases and wrongful death cases, judges are supposed to be impartial and not favor either side. The role of a judge is to make rulings of law and control how the court process works as well as how the trial works.
If a judge expresses bias or favoritism to one side, that could influence the jury and that could influence the outcome of the case.
